I cannot find the device code setting in ChatGPT.

1. Open ChatGPT Settings → Security and login. 2. Look under Advanced security for Enable device code authorization for Codex. 3. If missing, contact Sean. Do not change unrelated security settings.

Do I have to install Telegram on my laptop?

1. Use Telegram Desktop for this guide. 2. It lets you copy the saved bot details into Hermes on the same laptop.

Telegram is asking for my phone number. Is that safe?

1. Use the official Telegram app's login screen. 2. Enter the code there. Never send a login code to any person or bot.

The code on the laptop screen stopped working before I could point the phone at it.

1. Refresh the QR code on Telegram Desktop. 2. On your phone, open Settings → Devices. Scan the new code.

I already have Telegram on my phone, with years of chats in it.

1. Keep your existing Telegram account. 2. Link Telegram Desktop to that same account. You do not need another account.

I searched and there is no BotFather.

1. Open https://t.me/BotFather. 2. Check the exact @BotFather username and verification mark before using START.

I typed the name and no reply came back.

1. Open the official BotFather chat. 2. Tap START. Wait for its prompt before sending your bot name.

I opened the wrong bot. Mine answered with something strange.

1. Close the lookalike chat. 2. Open https://t.me/BotFather. Check the exact username and verification mark.

My screen does not look like the one in the class, and there is no New bot button.

1. Open the official BotFather chat. 2. Send this command. /newbot 3. Wait for the display-name question.

The username got rejected. It says taken or invalid.

1. Choose a unique username ending in bot. 2. Add a number before _bot in the username you built in Stage 3, then send that revised username to BotFather. Keep your agent’s name in it so you recognise your bot.

The message with my token scrolled away.

1. Open the BotFather chat. 2. Find its confirmation message. Forward it only to your own Saved Messages. 3. If you cannot recover it, ask Sean without sending the token.

Should I use capital letters in the username?

1. Use lowercase letters for a username you can recognise. 2. Copy the exact @username from Saved Messages when opening your bot.

My existing agent said the token I pasted was exposed and refused it.

1. Do not send the token again. Do not quote it. 2. In the official @BotFather chat, send /revoke. Select the affected bot. 3. Put the replacement token only in Hermes' bot-token field. 4. Save the settings. Restart the gateway from your laptop. 5. Contact Sean about the leak without including either token.

I changed the token in Hermes and now my bot is silent.

1. Use the latest token from BotFather for this exact bot. 2. Replace the bot-token field in Hermes settings. Save. 3. Restart the gateway on your laptop. hermes gateway restart 4. If it is not running, follow Gateway not running.

I typed user info bot and something else answered.

1. Open https://t.me/userinfobot. 2. Check the username is exactly @userinfobot. Leave if it asks for payment or login codes.

1. Open the correct @userinfobot chat. 2. Tap START. Wait for the Id line in its reply.

Which number is it? There is a lot of text.

1. Find the line labelled Id in @userinfobot's reply. 2. Copy only the digits after Id. Save them in your own Saved Messages.

I copied my name together with the number.

1. Copy the Id digits again from @userinfobot. 2. Remove any name, spaces or @username before using Allowed user IDs in Hermes.

What if I lose the note?

1. Open your own Telegram Saved Messages on the laptop. 2. If a detail is missing, recover the bot information in BotFather or your Id in @userinfobot. 3. Keep recovered details only in Saved Messages and the Hermes settings fields.

Can I keep these in WhatsApp or a photo instead?

1. Keep the token out of WhatsApp and shared photos. 2. Forward BotFather's confirmation only to your own Saved Messages. Never send it to anyone else.

Which one is the password?

1. The token is the secret key for your bot. 2. Use it only in Hermes' bot-token field. Keep tokens, passwords and login codes out of chats.

Nothing happens when I click the Install Hermes app.

1. Check the Dock for the Hermes icon. 2. Click its icon to bring the window forward. If an error appears, send Sean the exact wording.

I cannot find the Downloads folder.

1. Open Finder from the Dock. 2. Choose Downloads in its sidebar. Look for Hermes-Setup.dmg.

I clicked the download button and nothing happened.

1. Check your browser's downloads list. 2. Open Finder → Downloads. If empty, return to the official Hermes website and try the Mac download once.

The installer stopped halfway and the window closed.

1. Check that Wi-Fi is connected. 2. Open the official Hermes download again. If it shows an error, stop and send Sean the wording.

My ID is only 8 digits. Is that wrong?

1. Copy the exact Id digits from @userinfobot. 2. Do not judge your ID by its length. Do not add missing-looking digits.

The terminal says command not found after the installer.

1. Check the spelling: h-e-r-m-e-s. 2. Open a new Terminal or PowerShell window. Try the version command. hermes --version 3. If still not found, contact Sean. Do not reinstall from a random link.

The installer stops with an error in the middle.

1. Stop at the error screen. 2. Send Sean the exact error text and a photo with secrets covered. Do not delete your Hermes files.

I cannot copy and paste into the terminal.

1. On Mac, use Command+C to copy and Command+V to paste. 2. On Windows, use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste in PowerShell. 3. You should see this guide's command before pressing Enter. If not, try the copy button again.

My antivirus popped up and now the installer is gone.

1. Do not disable antivirus or restore files you cannot verify. 2. Check the download came from the official Hermes website. 3. If it blocks twice, stop and send Sean a photo of the warning.

The installer is stuck on one line and the bar is not moving.

1. Keep Wi-Fi connected. 2. Build desktop app can look still for several minutes. One workshop student waited eight minutes at 57%; that is a past example, not a timer for your laptop. Leave the installer open while it runs its jobs. 3. Wait while the installer shows activity. If it shows an error or no activity for 30 minutes, contact Sean.

I clicked Download and I cannot see the file.

1. Open File Explorer → Downloads. 2. Look for Hermes-Setup.exe. Check the browser's downloads list if it is missing.

Windows asked me to allow the app and I clicked No.

1. Open your downloaded Hermes-Setup.exe again. 2. Read the permission prompt. Choose Yes only for the official Hermes file you intended to open.

I closed Hermes by mistake and the sign-in stopped.

1. Open Hermes again. 2. Choose the ChatGPT subscription provider. Repeat the device sign-in with a fresh code.

I do not see ChatGPT or Codex Subscription in the list.

1. Look under Other providers in Hermes. 2. Choose ChatGPT or Codex Subscription if present. If the screen differs, send Sean a photo with secrets covered.

The browser says signed in but Hermes did not move.

1. Return to the Hermes window after the browser confirms sign-in. 2. Wait one minute. If nothing changes, repeat the sign-in using a fresh code.

It signed me into the wrong ChatGPT account.

1. Sign out of the wrong ChatGPT account in the browser. 2. Restart the provider sign-in from Hermes. Choose the account with Plus. 3. For account-access problems, contact Sean without sharing passwords or codes.

I cannot see the code it showed me.

1. Return to the Hermes sign-in screen. 2. Request a fresh code. Use it only at https://auth.openai.com/codex/device, never in chat.

Which model do I choose?

1. Choose GPT-5.6 Luna for setup. 2. If no Luna option appears, ask Sean. Your trainer covers model changes during the workshop.

Which one did I pick? I cannot remember.

1. In your bot's private chat, open the model picker. /model 2. Check the selected name contains Luna. Select Luna if needed.

It says messaging gateway stopped. Is something broken?

1. The gateway is Hermes' connection to Telegram. 2. After saving Telegram settings, use Restart now in Hermes. 3. If no gateway is running, follow Gateway not running.
